I headed off to Revolution Hall on Saturday (Feb 17) to see @moms_home__, @intheminimall, @wearewonderlust, and @girlfiendmusic play the side room venue off of the Showbox bar. Despite its revered reputation in Portland Revolution Hall is mostly a blank for me — it opened in 2015 right around the time my alcoholisms became treatment resistant and I needed to take a break from going out.

It’s been seven months since I started going to shows again and it’s nice to start recognizing faces and being able to say hello to folks I keep seeing. Community is a funny word but third places are good actually, and the crowd seemed to get gayer and gayer as we approached curtain time.

@wearewonderlust started us off and the stage chemistry of Stacey Katlain and Leo London was a delight as they jangled their way through their jangly pop. @girlfiendmusic followed (we’ll get there, see part 2), and then the first of the touring acts, @intheminimall, hit the stage.

Again, the stage presence of the performers did not disappoint — Sonia Ohan had a laid-back bassist swag reminiscent of Sara Lee but still gave her bandmates room to shine. Also — and I need to start recording the “introducing the band segments” because their names are escaping me — the pure joy of the stage-left guitarist and trumpet player was a delight to watch.

The copious members of @moms_home__ took the stage and milled about until their leader, Charlotte Avery, arrived. Despite being fashionably late for her own show she immediately took control of the stage and focused her band’s chaos towards their set. Charlotte’s energy was something else — I could faintly hear the psychic cries of the pdx uwu girls in attendance whispering — “she could fix me”. The set crescendoed with the second chorus of Really Good Dates where Charlotte let everyone off their leash.
