Zine: Fucking Cis Men

Posted by author in the category "zine"

New zine is out! Fucking Cis Men: stunted trans desires in the waning days of generation x started as me wanting to tell some teenage cruising disaster stories and, while there's plenty of that, it turned into a zine that's as much about my relationship with the past than it is anything else.

It's also, I think, the last of my memoir zines. At least for a while. Memoir is a dissociative practice and it made sense to embrace it as I was sifting through a dissociative past, but I don't think it's a place I want to live. Also -- while it's allowed me to start developing my voice and to trust my perspective I'd like to focus more on craft. Being able to detach myself from work placed under scrutiny seems necessary and memoir makes that more difficult. Also also -- a little deniability would be nice. "Oh, yes, I see, but it's my characters who did that sketchy thing."

Assembly and production wise I avoided the siren call of InDesign and stayed in my LaTeX rat warren. I write in markdown files and it's nice to press a button and have a fully typeset PDF. Using the memoir class for the extrafontsizes of it all -- 20pt for the 8.5in x 11in version and then that gets jammed down to booklet size via includepdf. I still don't 100% understand how includepdf gets new fonts/sizes but 20pt originals ended up between 13pt/14pt in size on the page and the print quality was decent. I once again have successfully avoided going too deep on LaTeX. (I am actually quite charming in person, I swear)

Copies for sale on my Big Cartel store, free to read online. [pdf] [half sized]
