All images have been converted to 24-bit PNG files in order to preserve quality. However, as part of the original USGS project, all images were indexed to 8-bit color.
You may browse the images by year taken , image location, category or you may perform a full text search of the archive. You may also search the site with the ubiquitous Google search.
Many of these images are already online, and in full 24-bit color at the USGS Earth Science Photographic Archive. Each listing on our site will include, where possible, a link to the USGS Archive's version of the photograph.
Of the 1563 listings on this site, there are currently 366 without proper links to the USGS archive. If you'd like to help search the archive for these photographs, you may browse the listings where we've been unable to locate an archived image.
